The gate agents have much more stress than we do.

There are pilots who make the job incredibly harder than it really is. I have a feeling they make everything harder in their lives than necessary.

The airline, the flight Ops, the contract, the finances, commuting and so on have a lot to do with it... oh and the airplane. Some are more stressful than others.

I think it depends on where you're located. Would you rather be an FDNY firefighter or a low crime village cop where handing out traffic tickets is probably the most dangerous thing you'll ever do?

True, but I think the average across different areas would still put police work well above firefighting. Being a cop sucks, not enough money out there to make me want to put up with the crap they do. Being a FF on the other hand, is a sweet gig.

Of course, sweeter still is flying airplanes.

How about fire fighter in Detroit? You still get shot at but can't shoot back. I did a couple of ride-alongs back in the day. 3am shooting and arson waiting for the cops to get there before getting out of the truck. No thanks. Then there's Devil's night. Enough said. I'm a former Air Force firefighter so standing in a pool of burning JP4 can also be stressful. As is standing under a B52 with a hung flare or a KC135 with a brake fire. It's all relative. Pilot training or Detroit FD? Where's that Cessna 152 again?

Until the municipality scuttles your retirement after 20years. Yes, working in Andy Griffith, Wonderbread America getting kittens out of trees is pretty sweet. Major city with calls every night, all night, not so much. Houston FD is currently fighting the mayor over raiding the pension fund. Lots of firefighter friends.
