We let our first one get all those damned vaccines and she has all kinds of allergies now, both food and exposure types. The second one we only paralleled our shot records and she is fine. That's what I recommend...only give your kids the shots we got as kids. I mean REALLY, why does my 9 year old need a VD vaccine??!!

YW
I agree. Some of the posts in APC are truly frightening. I always have a hard time reconciling the "professional pilots" here from the ones whom I know in real life, who are intelligent, rational, reasonable gems of people. We discuss things without getting emotional. See the safety thread for some odd posts. The internet gives equal voice to the crazy or massively uninformed, whom often rise to the majority and can shout over the reasonable.
I have a theory that most of the crazy posters are not actually pilots - certainly a few hostile high volume posters and a few RWNJ's are not pilots at all.
Anyway regarding the "VD" shots (HPV and hep B) - you CAN delay these, just ask your pediatrician. These previously have been given in mid to late teens when students may go to college or are likely to start sexual activity. Still, they are both safe vaccines and I'd just recommend them as scheduled, how well do you know your frisky teenager?

To get the thread back on track, I got my Yellow fever whenever it was due. Made me sick for a couple of days and hate life, then all was well again.
I only question one immunization, and it isn't the sera, it is the method: combined MMR at age one. I wonder if it is too much at once, for a minute fraction of the populace.
Reason: autism seems to present itself as a recognizable symptom about that time (age 1). All tests say each individual serum is safe.
Diet sodas are safe, too....except for that tiny fraction of the populace that needs the warning: "Attention Phenylketoneneurics--contains phenylalanine."

Vaccines and autism link has been not demonstrated in any sort of way in innumerable carefully done studies. This is the danger of judging by anecdote.
One of the bigger studies

Holy crap. Please take off your tinfoil hat! Rest assured that if there was a vast conspiracy or no data behind studies we (doctors) would not be behind it. Doctors' interests are not the same as vaccine makers or large conglomerates. There is no "white wall of silence." Ask doctors what vaccines they give their kids. No different from what we'd recommend for yours.
Hopefully this changes your way of thinking: I have a close relative that works for a pharmaceutical company and the PHd's that he works with do not vaccinate their children. These are the highly intelligent people who research and develop the drugs. You and I only know what we are told, we are not the ones making the drugs or doing the research.
Please explain why the rates of allegeries, autism, etc. have skyrocketed. Try telling tm602 that his experience with his daughters is not real. In your next post you said that most pilots are rational, but some post on here that are not. Do you really think it is not rational for us to question what is going into our bodies and our children's bodies? In the 1950's women were ridiculed by doctors for wanting to breastfeed their babies - now we know who the real fools were. Let me use a more recent example - for years Zofran was given to pregnant women for morning sickness. As of December it is now known to cause birth defects. The list of examples goes on and on.
Do you think I am going to give Prevnar13 to my infant? It has only been out for 5 years, less time than zofran was out.
So, who is more rational? What will be the next drug that you currently support and make fun of people with their tinfoil hats when they don't want to take it, but will soon be proven unsafe?
We will take off our tinfoil hats, but please start to eek your way out of your 1950's mentality cave of "doctor knows everything and can make fun of patients who question with rationale"
