When blowing your crew chief makes you a protected class and not the butt of jokes for decades, the joke kind of loses its edge. I am sure the sensitivity classes will remind our future warriors of same...

Naaah, I was more going for the perception outside the AF (mostly by grunts) that light gray dudes have less understanding of ground forces because they're often not directly engaged in supporting them. The whole zipper-suited-sun-god thing, zipping around during the day up in the stratosphere and eating steak and sipping scotch at night, while the joes eat, sleep, and bathe in dirt.

Present former-FAC company excluded, of course. And the stereotype, as most of them do, ignores how many light gray bros ended up in ALO billets in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last 15 years.

When I was in my ISR gig, and the green Army units I visited found out I'd been an Eagle guy in a previous life, I was on the receiving end of that stereotype quite a lot.

Regarding the crew chief thing, you're right. The way things are going the Eagle community will likely be celebrated in the future for just how far out on the leading edge of the LGBTQ movement in the military they were.

Oh - you put far more thought into your inference that I did. I just assumed you meant something along the lines of "no clue who my #2 is" with regards to a formation.

Either way, an "Eagle guy" joke option.......or may the next title for a Dos Gringos song.

Pre Iraqi freedom, I used to enjoy letting the occasional Army guy or Marine soapbox about how easy we had it in the Air Force...O clubs, golf courses, BOQs with AC and cable, etc. I'd let them ramble and offer their put downs for while. Then I'd ask "so...what did you do During Desert Storm?" Usually the answer was a rambling "I was in training at NTC" or "I wasn't in the service yet then..." or similar babble. I'd then point out I was in the biggest tank battle since WWII, on the front lines watching the destruction of the Iraqi Republican Guard...in an M113 manning a .50 cal..." If the dude didn't have a CIB, I knew he wasn't there....and I always enjoyed those conversations. In all seriousness, you won't find a former FAC/ALO that doesn't have a tremendous respect for the crap those guys endure, both in combat and just in the day to day Army life...

Hah, I wasn't even thinking that -- wish I'd made that joke!

So badass -- I love those wang-measuring contests when the other guy never even sees the punchline coming.
