Dear Rhodes Scholar (with a laser pointer),
Step right up genius. You just won an all expenses paid trip into the Federal prison system. Quite an accomplishment (assuming you are not already a regular participant within our fine criminal justice system). Fear not though. There are plenty of fun filled hobbies for you to participate in while in prison that should be right up your alley (so to speak).

Her presentation is a bit odd, but she does have good points that are worth examining. Medical helicopters are often very over-used, and while we want them when we need them, I find myself specifically giving orders to NOT transport some of my patients by air when not needed, when there are conflicting factors and interests (companies make $$$$$ when air transport is used.)

Local News | Medical Helicopters Overused, Some Say -- Most Flights Are Not For Life-Threatening Cases | Seattle Times Newspaper

After a crash awhile ago. More recently there is better awareness of proper use:

Study examines cost-effectiveness of helicopter transport of trauma victims - Office of Communications & Public Affairs - Stanford University School of Medicine

Often our patients are billed for supplement or insurance will deny air transport after the fact, and the patient was in no capacity to make the decision when he or she was injured. It is a big problem. She is correct, a great deal of patients airlifted would have been better served by ambulance. That airlift could have paid for a lot of rehab or care after hospitalization if it was not needed.

I have seen a great deal of towns get their very own police helicopter without a great deal of examination of justification, and all little towns near my homebase have their very own SWAT team. I can never fathom how people that supposedly call themselves fiscal conservatives somehow put on blinds and approve of these types of expenditures.

It is easy to spend other people's money in the name of "safety."

Police chopper got another punk in FL, according to the ABC news channel on right now. Good riddance. 19yo, in the backyard of his parents pool house. What a prick. Idiot actually pointed it at a police chopper.

"Robertson, who also teaches aviation safety at USC, encourages pilots to fly with their eyes on their instruments in the cockpit and to protect their eyes."

So much for see and avoid.
