They've signed off on jepps in one or more devices, but not necessarily the lowest bid one that UCAL will get. And the device itself will have to be certified in the aircraft for stable electrics and under extremes of temp and pressure. Each device has to prove itself environmentally regardless of its software interoperability. On this date next year I'll "top" this thread to see if we have one or not. I bet not.
It depends on what they get and/or how they are used, but they DO NOT have to do the testing for certain applications...
