I am very humble and have never walked around like im the best pilot, but the fact that people say i am very good shows me that these checkrides are not a reflection of my actual skills.
The very best thing you can do for yourself is not listen to anyone who strokes your ego like that.
It has nothing to do with you, personally. Has a lot more to do with adopting a mindset where you never believe that you're as good as you should be or can be. It will keep you from complacency and overconfidence, which will in turn always keep you hungry to learn and improve.
