Granted bank money is an unproven commodity that would be hard to justify on the balance sheet, but if month in month out the bank returned to the company went down, the upgrade would pay for itself in a very short period of time.

Slippery slope, IMO.
One of the reasons the company is showing ZERO motivation to fix the accepted fare problems is that they've come to expect a certain amount back into their pocket each month. They need to see that money as spent - never to be returned. Now you want to show them another way to get us to not spend our bank?
