Unfortunately, he's right.
A reckless is not a good thing when applying for an airline job even if it was just a 20-over reckless.
But in your case it will pretty obvious to the airlines that you were arrested for DUI and plead down. Airlines will pretty much consider this the same as a DUI for their purposes.
But it was a while ago and you have a good history since then so you should be able to overcome this.
