Someone once told me UPS begged DAL to run its aviation department when they got into it, DAL refused. And that DHL offered to pay us to fly airplanes empty if they could have the cargo bay below or something to that effect. We didn't. Nobody's fault here in management, union, DPA or seniority list, just if true it's a colossal fail on the managements of the past given the propensity to outsource why not be the outsourced department? They should know that's where the money is.
Anyways, how about this? Combi's? We could do that on a lot of planes couldn't we?

The reason for NOT buying a Combi 747, as given by management at a previous company, is that you cannot get a combi certified by the FAA unless the Cargo is FORWARD of the passenger cabin. Foreign carriers apparently have no such restriction when dealing with their respective government agencies.
We were told that studies deemed this limitation to be unacceptable to passengers, even though it's supposedly safer, and that it caused some problems with flight crew/cabin crew interaction.
There was a rumor that we were going to lease some Euro certified combi's(747-300), but that never panned out.
