IMHO buying the 50 seat RJ's for their mission was just stupid.

The 70 seat ATR burns about 1200 PPH compared to around 3400PPH for a 50 seat CRJ200. The ATR carries more weight in a much more comfortable cabin in and out of much shorter fields while traveling at nearly the same speeds over a 400NM or less route.

Around Atlanta, the ground delays make a much greater difference in block than whether the 15 minutes at cruise is flown at 260KTS or 450KTS.

If we had ATR's on the property, I would bid them before the small jets. Props are cool In fact, I was half considering going to fly them in the Pacific islands as a furlough gig.
