"The Steering Committee distributes ALPA-PAC support based solely on a candidate’s position on issues that directly affect airline pilots. Recent examples of such issues include:
- airport access (CrewPASS),
- oil prices,
- bankruptcy reform,
- the FFDO program,
- pensions issues,
- cabotage and foreign control,
- family and medical leave for flight crews,
- a wide variety of specific safety issues.
Only after carefully reviewing the voting records and political positions of incumbents or interviewing candidates on issues of direct interest to ALPA is a determination made as to who will most likely support airline pilots. These are the candidates who receive contributions from ALPA-PAC. All ALPA-PAC recipients have either demonstrated their support for ALPA’s position on key legislative issues or it is believed they will be valuable friends to ALPA on future initiatives
ALPA-PAC is one of the most bipartisan labor PACs in Washington, DC, supporting candidates without regard to party affiliation. ALPA-PAC is the only way that ALPA national participates directly in the federal election process; ALPA national does not use any member dues money for this purpose."
Dear Reroute:
Is this the same kind of thing as ALPA
publishing that they helped the TWA pilots to the best of their ability? Or
publishing that they've never destroyed documents or computer hard drives? Or
publishing that they are utterly opposed to age 65? Or
publishing they are utterly committed to the 1500 hour rule? Or
publishing they are utterly committed to not caving in on FT/DT?
This statement about what the ALPA-PAC does is pure BS like the many examples of BS I've listed above. ALPA's affiliation with the AFL-CIO has forced us to back some of the most far left politicians we have in the nation. The excuse for it is that these same politicians back an ALPA interest.
