I don't know if I agree with this huge shortage but it is just not true that people are lining up for the crappy jobs. I've talked to pilots that hire and people are not lining up. Regional hiring has just started to pick up after years of little to no hiring and already they are having a difficult time getting people to show up to interviews and classes. Even when they do get people to show up to class only a percentage stick around to the end of class. The qualified pool right now is not big and will only slowly shrink in the future.

I fully believe that qualified pilots will not have a hard time finding a good job at a major in the next five years. It might not be a mad scramble but the jobs will be there if scope is not further loosened. It sounds like most agree that regionals will have a hard time. People seems to forget this isn't just a regional problem. It is a problem that will directly effect the major partners. How are the majors going to handle an inability to get their feed from the regionals when the regionals are unable to staff their flights? It has the potential to turn this industry upside down.
