We're doing flaps 5 takeoffs so just ignore us as we zoom by and rotate on the numbers on the far end of a 12,000 runway. Yehaw.
FTB,
Reminds me of one of the two times in 3000 hrs of C-9 flying in the Navy when we took off "Slats only." Don't remember the actual V speeds but they were somewhere around there.
It was at NAS Fallon in the summer (think about 4000 MSL and 120F). We are given taxi directions to the "short" runway and tell tower we need the longer runway. The controller comes back with something like "Well you have 11,000 feet - you need more than that?"
We say "Yes, we would like the 14,000 ft runway."
We would actually have to fly west to Travis or Lemoore to get down to sea level, top off and then head to the east coast.
As Bruce would say "Glory Days!"
