A quick look at the contract comparison that was distributed recently illustrates that point sharply. The airline with the worst scope (usair) has the lowest pay of anyone. The airlines with the best scope (fedex, ups, southwest) have the highest pay.
ALPA's tactic recently is to modify scope language via grievance settlement. It surprises me that pilots every where are not up in arms about what just happened over at American Eagle. Their Section 1 waiver was not sent to the members for ratification, not even signed by the MEC Chair, or ALPA's President. It was executed by the Eagle Contract Compliance Committee Chairman alone.

The result is a nearly complete waiver of Eagle scope in exchange for a flow through to no where. I don't know how their pilots will address this. They don't seem to be complaining.

Your comments on scope are correct. Scope is leverage. Without leverage, you get poor results. Scope is always a leading indicator for results in other parts of the PWA.
