Hotel: Cigarette holes in the linen, torn and dirty upholstry on the furniture, closet doors dangling/stacked up against the wall, trim and molding falling down, boogers and ink marks on the walls, and worse, there was mold growing on the walls and ceiling. They also didn't have any luggage racks to help prevent the spread of bedbugs to your luggage. (The Capts room was in similar shape). Food? What food? The food in the hotel restaurant was disgusting and there's only a gas station, a steakhouse with very limited hours, a pancake place, and a fast food option (Long John Silvers?).
Even the locals know it sucks. Hotel staff, "Unless you have a car, you're pretty much screwed." "I wouldn't recommend eating at Yorkshire Steak and Seafood." Pancake restaurant owner as I walked in, "Ah, you must be a MD-88 pilot?" "Nobody walks this far to get here except you guys."
The Captain and I wrote the place up. But here's the kicker ...
I sent an email to the ALPA Hotel Committee Representative. And after waiting 2 months for a response, he replied to my email and acknowledged that they were scouting for a new hotel. But seeing that we're still staying way out in Williamsburg ****es me off when you have much better hotel choices with food options and a mall in Newport News.
I can layover in Compton as long as I only have to walk across the street to get to good places to eat or a store to buy something I need.
