Bingo-if you enlist and spend 5-10 years defending the country (usually the guys/gals on the pointy end of the spear), and get out to go to school, get a job, etc, you get squat. I think the problem they are seeing is with the cliff vesting. IMO, giving some sort of 401K contribution for service in the early "war fighting years" is appropriate. Look at the typical age of the kids killed in the war these days. They're junior and generally in their 20s.
Perhaps we should mandate that congressmen and congresswomen do the same...serve and lead by example. Afterall, these stellar specimens (even the ones without the deviant sexual disorders) spend merely 5 years "serving their country" and receive an $80K congressional annual pension fund as well as lifetime family insurance...more than twice that the young men and women on the pointy end of the spear (or the bottom of a 72" hole) can ever dream of. Guess I should have chosen to "serve" my country from the lavish offices and privelages of a govenment provided Georgetown condo and a local, hometown "status pad." Then again, I guess I chose not to be the $30milloion a year 5'9" white guy, that can't jump or throw, playing in the NBA...we all make choices. And then again, here we are bickering about the mundane issue of pay for lowly college educated people, transporting safely and (don't forget) professsionally, with a "13+ hour duty day "HAPPY SMILE," approx. 65,000 citizens (who are GUARANTEED every civil right known to God) annually per pilot. Don't mean to be ****y, but I am in pain from the blisters that I devoped while burrying the gold jewelry that I stole from my inlaws house this weekend (thank God they live in the city and will never suspect me!). I've decided to run for Congress and leave this brutal fight that I may not win (learned that tactic in the recent DADT DoD battle) to you guys. Do I have any grass roots support?
