The basing issue has been touched on before but is still a big question mark for me because the idea of having a say in where you live is completely new to me. Bear in mind that I went straight from home to the military, meaning I've never had the option to choose where to live.
With the pre-amble out of the way, can a current employee give some advice based on the following scenarios? I realize there are some big IFs in there, but in the interest of narrowing the discussion I have to make some assumptions.
#1 - I get hired, based in JFK, choose to live close to LIT. I always request to stay out 17 days in a row. How does my work period start if my first leg is from JFK to somewhere? What about WRI? What about FRA? How does my work period end if the last mission terminates in JFK? In FRA? Will I ever be required to spend reserve time in JFK? If so, how do I get there and do I pay for my own lodging? What happens if a mission during my 17-day window passes through LIT or JFK?
#2 - hired, HSV-based, choose to live within driving distance of HSV. How do all the above questions change (substituting HSV for LIT and JFK)?
I realize this might be outside the scope of the hiring discussion, and I'll be happy to move the question to another forum if it's more appropriate there. Thanks again for the continued great info on Atlas--I can't wait to get myself qualified to apply!
