Upgrade is a choice, it's not forced upon anyone. People don't make it through upgrade and get fired. It happens. It's not like Captain upgrade training is a walk in the park at a regional.
$38 for a Capt is insane, no doubt. That's why C5 is in contract negotiations. Of course in typical ALPA fashion most of us will be flying for majors by the time anything comes out of it.
