Executives care about producing the best numbers from 1 quarter to the next.
Employees care about having a job 20 years from now.
If executives were paid 80% of total compensation in stock that could only be cashed out 10-20 years after it was earned, then you would see decisions more in line with maintaining a positive brand image over the long term.
