The only problem I really have with AA/AE benefits is that you have to pay per leg and pay for an upgrade to first class. When we had DAL benefits, we paid like $50 up front per person to get the benefits and didn't pay anything else unless we traveled overseas, and then we only paid airport taxes.
AA/AE 5 hr flight will cost you about $40 in first class (taxes and fees) . Still $10 less than the $50 upfront + whatever taxes you have to pay in DAL. BTW after 5 yrs working on AMR non/rev is free. Still beating the $50 upfront with DAL.
Annnnd everyone is happy.
