That's an interesting one. I agree with your answer, I wouldn't feel comfortable at all either in that situation but I would also add in my answer that if ice was encountered, the severity of the situation would depend on how much excess power and airspeed I had. A C-172 is probably capable of chugging along at at least 15 kts above stall spd with full power and a medium layer of ice on the wings?? So with an average rate of ice accumulation, you maybe have 20-30 mins to get out of it before your going down?

I'm not saying this means anyone shouldn't start to worry if they see ice on their 172; just tossing around some bs.
