They won't put the Oct. line awards into DBMS until the 16th or 17th, then you can see what's in open time (or look at the bottom of your wide report and see what's 'open') and then you can load up your best wishes into the PCS page, be sure you click on OCT or you will be doing it for Sept, which, as a reserve, you cannot.
But what you can do today is get familiar with the PCS page, trip parameters, ie. 'no all nighters' etc. so when you do it for real, you'll have some idea of what boxes there are to check.
If you want to swap trips, there is a page for swaps, if you only want to pick up trips, (white slip) there is a separate page for that.
You'll have to shoot yourself in the foot a few times before you learn how to do it right...don't ask me how I know.
