Hockey,
Familarize yourself with the PCS page. It can be your best friend or your worst enemy! White slips are used strictly to pick up time listed in the pot. Swap with the pot is used to swap your trip with a trip in the pot. There are restrictions with this such as no "Q" trips, reserve availability, and max pick up. Don't forget that you can always use the swapboard too.
You can also put in "blind" swaps (but be careful!) where the trip is not available but if it becomes available during the PCS run, you will have your swap in and it will process it. This works fairly well on the initial PCS run. It doesn't work all the time but I have used it to swap into better trips. The more trips you are willing to swap for the better it works.
As was said before, you cannot put in PCS changes until the schedules are released. GOOD LUCK!
