"Compared to global icons like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple, aviation must seem dull and boring. We have lost the lustre and the magic that brought most of us into this industry all those years ago," the American executive said.
"In the words of pop icon Justin Timberlake, we need to bring the sexy back in order to enlarge the pool of young people entering our pipeline."
It's such a joke. If a pilot shortage ever does materialize in the US, it's the easiest problem to fix in the world. Stop paying fast food flunkie wages to your professionals. Stop beating your professionals about the head and shoulders just because you can. Provide them with a CAREER instead of a JOB that is threatened by outsourcing or bankruptcy or some other crisis every other year. People will flock to one of the most glamorous jobs in the world in more than ample numbers, just like they have for the past 4 decades.
Young people and career changers WANT to become airline pilots, not some cubicle dweller at Amazon. They just don't want to sink a high five figure, low six figure sum into a profession that pays poverty wages and eats its young. Duh.
