Lucky you, well kinda due in part to you being with small departments. This has been a rough year for my father on Chicago's fire department, just last month two of his friends got burned up real bad; neither will return to work it seems. I remember so many times getting the call that my dad was hurt on the job it's amazing how many times he should have been killed. The pay coincides with how dangerous the job is, and flying just isn't as dangerous as going into a burning building.
