State laws vary, in a state with Castle Doctrine you are just wasting ammo. Plus you open the small window of a malfunction that renders your weapon useless for a period of time.
I agree with the shotgun approach. There is a Chinese clone of a Winchester 97 in the bedroom closet. About the most evil looking shotgun around with an 18 inch bayonet attached. I wonder if anyone makes a light that clips on the bayonet mount?
