700 is better than 250...I wouldn't have minded seeing the 1500 rule, but the airline lobbyist were able to wear down the FAA in fear of a AHHHHH "pilot shortage". The reason the pilot shortage is so feared, is because it'd be bad for the airlines who'd have to raise wages, and lower profit margins, or pass the costs onto the customers...God forbid you have to pay people a reasonable wage in order to attract candidates with your mandated qualifications...If anything, this is what the unions should have been fighting tooth and nail to get, requirements for entry...when the airline goes back to the union saying "we don't have enough people!" then the union can fight for better wages/incentives to help attract more qualified candidates.
