Bagels, peanut butter, tuna packets, cans of chicken all are great if your trying to stay strong and save $$... BareNaked used to make a great protein granola mix...I was in better shape on this diet than when I ate at home and ate pasta's, burgers, fries etc..
For day 1 might have packed some perishable leftovers like pasta or a sandwhich etc.. Day 2 and 3 would be the bulk food stuff. If you have an OPS area like we did in CVG there was always plenty of time to run to the fridge so I ustilized that pretty often.
I found it important to maybe grab an airport meal or meal on the road once a tour to get something a bit more tasty. And break up the routine of tasteless food
