That comes with experience. Hence, coming here with 500TT or 975TT doesn't help either. Get some PIC either by CFI'ing or flying freight. Once you upgrade you will understand.
Leadership is trait, attitude, or the quality of an individual. You can have enough hours to qualify to fly the SR-71, but can't lead your way out of a wet paper bag with scissors in your hands.
You can have a 500 hr guy/gal who gets it or a 10,000 hr CA who doesn't still.
Usually the first shot at leadership for a pilot is when they make CA. Sometimes, if not often, if an FO tries to show a little leadership, he/she are treated in a way that doesn't give positive reenforcement. It's not your fault, but it is the fault of our industry.
Once you have the quality of a leader, you will understand.
