Who decides to fly for Spirit and live out west (who else would want a LAS base)? It's like an east coast guy working for Alaska. Great company, but the bases are all on the wrong coast.
I'm an ORD voter, obviously. Equally obviously, the BOD doesn't care what I think. If they think taking the fight to Southwest and Alaska out west is a better option than taking it to AA and United in ORD (and Southwest in MDW), than LAS it is. Southwest and Alaska seem to be in a much better position to defend their markets than AA ($ issues) and UA (distracted with the merger), though, and Southwest still fancies themselves as 'low cost' too.
There are a few of us who would take LAS, myself included. It is irrelivant if we want it as a group or not. If they decide it will save them money then they will open a base and staff it with new hires who don't have a choice. Personally, if I was a new hire and lived in the northeast and had a choice of LAS or ACY, LAS hands down.
