Yes, that is exactly how it should work. I was also out for 6 years and 1 month. 17 months of that time, I was on orders that stated in direct support of contingency ops so that time did not count against my 5 years. The other time did count even though they were all title 10 12301(d) orders (minus the contingency statement) So in essence I only used 4.5 years of my 5 year USSRA mil leave. Once again to all. Just make sure you understand the law and work with Delta to make sure you all agree before your 5 years is up.
