The 365 just concerns when the conversions have to be done for this bid alone. They expect a lot of training on this bid so they used their contractual right to spread it out over 365 days. They can post another bid a month (or a week) from now and another a month (or a day or a week) after that. There will be more bids for MD-90's but that will come later. This is a little more random from the pilot's view than the APA system, but this is how Delta has done it and they know that system. Eventually they may change but this is the south and they don't change quickly.

Each new AE will adjust for the changes/shortcomings from the last AE. The next AE will most likely have more MD-88/90 openings and more DC-9 displacements. They will also adjust to the changing market conditions that affects how Hauenstein deploys our aircraft to make money (we like making money).

The bottom line is that there can and most likely will be overlapping AE's with multiple training/conversion windows. You have gotten the big picture. More MD-90's, phase out of DC-9's. Shape your bidding strategy around that.
