I had the same dilemma. All of my trips originated out of JFK. When I started flying out of JFK 6 years ago, I had 3 Jetblues, 6 DAL mainline and Comair, 5 American and Eagle flights that all arrived in JFK or LGA before my sign-ins. Before I was able to leave the base, since there were no bids for a looong time, this was whittled back to 1 comair and 1 eagle both leaving within 15 minutes of each other.
I went in to tell the CP I could no longer be a JFK commuter. The answer was you still have EWR. I told them that I wouldn't be commuting to EWR since my flying was all JFK and since I didn't know how to get between the two and wasn't willing to suck up a $100 cab, it wasn't going to happen...They may as well have said "you still have PHL or DCA or BOS.
I bid out the first opportunity, but there was a 6 month period where there was undue stress due to items out of my control.
