That is a real email. I was almost furloughed back in 08 and I can tell you that worrying about something that you have no control over is pointless. No one knows how many are going to be furloughed or when it will happen so until the company comes out with the #'s just remember that everyone is full of it.
Lets say you do go to the XJT side of the house. Why would you go back to first year pay? You would continue to build longevity because you are still employed with the company. It would kind of suck to be behind all those guys hired after you onto the xjt side but until we have our lists integrated we are technically still two pilot lists with separate contracts protecting pilots on those lists. I dont think it is right for you to be on reserve below brand new hires but I dont see how they could put you in front of them without them raising hell. You will catapult ahead when the lists come together but until then I think you are stuck.
Are you off reserve at ASA? and how far from the bottom are you?
