Why not just dissolve/resign from the union and everyone simply stop working? Wouldn't that be the easiest way for a work stoppage while bypassing all union/RLA legalities? Why make things complicated with tedious negotiatings, a CEO milking the process for years (laughing all the way to the bank) and thousands of message board topics of said subject.
I am likely way out of my league here but usually a union is a required item for a strike. Basically if pilots did what you mentioned they would lose all union support from their respective CBA. To me, that means if they just stoped working that would be no different then quitting in the eyes of the company. So yes, this would create a HUGE mess for the management team to have all those pilots simply stop working. But then that leads me to wonder why would the company even bother negotiating with guys that have quit that have no legal support from the union?
