I had the NTSB inspector that investigated the Pittsburgh crash on the jumpseat once.... He was not pleased with the politics involved, I will leave it at that.
I was involved (on the board or as a staff adviser) on 3 accidents in the USAF. Same there, when it came time to write the report you would have all sorts of people (who you never thought had an iron in the fire) come out and give you reasons why it couldn't have happened the way it did.....and didn't impact their kingdom
I can't even imagine the pressure if actual money was involved.
