Delta to add non-stop DFW-LGA routes
Striking while the iron is hot -- that meaning American Airlines in bankruptcy --
Delta Airlines announced today that it is adding six non-stop flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth and New York's LaGuardia Airport beginning March 25.
The new round-trip offerings come as a direct result of Delta and US Airways swapping landing slots at LaGuardia and Reagan National. Delta said it will add 100-plus flights and 29 destinations out of LaGuardia.
One of American's problems in the last couple of years, according to analysts, is that the company has lost market share in New York to its leaner-meaner competitors after they have gone through reorganization. Delta's new DFW-LGA routes won't help any.
Flights won't begin until March but they will be available for booking online beginning tomorrow (Dec. 17). The flights will be on 70-passenger Embraer jets with six first-class seats.
Delta is also going to beef up service out of New York's JFK on some critical routes, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.
