It really is unbelievable. Our government and its agencies need a deep house cleaning to get rid of the corruption. Probably not going to happen any time soon.
To see how business is conducted in Washington every day watch this clip from a guy who got caught doing it. I believe people in our own union get sidetracked with their own immediate desires and the "justification" starts and its downhill from there.

Jack Abramoff: The lobbyist's playbook - YouTube
Has anybody else noticed Delta's lobbying money increase the past couple years. Also the ATA (oh yeah I forgot the new name "Airlines for America

) hiring people that recently worked "on the hill" in key departments, still friends with the lawmakers/staffers there.
I agree that whatever union we have needs a presence on capital hill. We need to cut the fat (ie money to regionals, money wasted on FPL internet bandits, oil paintings and all the silly stuff given to the ALPA leadership) and put more dollars toward hiring actual lobbyists to do business the way government does business as the video above illustrates. That's how you affect change now as proven by your very own Delta Airlines and AFA in dumbing down the FTDT rules.
