No time to waste with a newborn in the house. Fortunately it was less then 2 hours from the call to our heat working again.
Home Depot sells an indoor safe Kerosene heater for $139. 23,000 BTU capable and will heat 1000 square feet no problem. 5 gallons of K-1 will cost about $30 and run that heater for 24 hours straight at high heat, or 32 hours at a lower setting.
I found it to be really cheap insurance when living in an area with ice storms that can knock out power or cause damaging surges.
