Your pay rate is based on the month of CONVERSION...and you won't see the increase until the next month's 15th pay check. They can train you while you are still on your 'old' equipment, then convert you after you are done, or convert you first, then train you.
So, yes, if you were converted to 7ER on Jan. 1, what ever you do in Jan, will be paid at 7ER rates, but you won't see that on Jan. 15th paycheck, you'll have to wait until Feb. 15th.
To be Clear, you "Starting Training" is NOT being Converted. They are completely independant. Look in DBMS to see when your Conversion date is, if it's not until Feb. 1, (Jan. 31) you will be paid at 88 rates while in 7ER school.
Back in the dark ages, they would typically send us to school, then put us back on our 'old' equipment for 2-3 months...then convert us. They did this to me when I went from 757 F/O to M88 Capt. in 1992. When I asked for another IOE before my first trip after conversion, because I hadn't been in a Mad Dog for about 80 days, they said no, they were too short of LCA's but..."Don't worry, you'll be fine..." Thank God for my excellent F/O, who was senior to me!
While in 88Capt. school, I was getting 757 F/O pay, beacuse that was my status, until conversion, 90 days later.
