When we started flying to China it was required, but that has changed, they just stamp the passport now. Other places that stamp a U.S. passport are Russia, Malta, Tunisia, and Germany ( unless you have an official Crew Member Certificate, separate from the company ID ). I'm sure there are a few others but most places just need the Gen Dec and perhaps a scan of the ]

Not quite correct however. A Russian Visa is required for all crewmembers flying for a US Airline to enter any Russian airport. The VISA is a pain to get and only good for 18 months at a time.
