Flew with a lead LCA a couple of days ago and he reiterated that the company will have to hire soon, with the number of guys who could suddenly retire between 60-65, and the new rest rules that will take effect. Commuted home yesterday with a captain who lives in Ft Worth who plans on retiring at age 60, which is pretty soon for him.
I think the company would like a new contract hammered out for planning purposes before going bonkers with hiring. Plus this situation with American should prove interesting.
Thank you for your good report. Your post explains it, there were 12,000+ "applicants" and 5,500 "qualified applicants."
As hard as this company searches for revenue, I am surprised we don't charge a fee like several of our competitors do. If we charged what FedEx does, we'd have about another $2.5 million.
