DAL had a 75 hr max in the 80s. Anything over 75 went into "bow-wave" which carried into next month and thus decreased the flying on your schedule for that month. There was no pay without credit either - for anything. But that has degenerated into what we have today. Flex time came about to allow the company to change the monthly max as the system flying changed throughout the year. Somewhere in there we added bank time. Etc, etc.
