The TIS isn't a TCAS so keep your head outside.
If you are flying right seat and want to mirror the primary screen, press the red button (Display Backup)
After take off, on the 172, there will be times the fuel indicators will read drastically lower.
XM subscription can be nice on those long cross countries, especially with weather updates.
Always carry paper/plastic checklist and charts.
Be alert which NAV source is being utilized. It will switch automatically if you have setup an approach.
Keep a consistent scan going.
