my wife's coworker (she's a prosecutor) did what is called a wet lab where you basically drink and blow into a Breathalizer every hour or so. it took him over 14 beers to reach the .08BAC. he knew far before he reached the legal limit that he should be nowhere near a moving vehicle.

That's impossible, you're seriously confused. 3-4 beers is what the chart says for .08 for my weight and I'm not small.
I am a responsible drinker, I don't break the law, but I consider the law a bit draconian. I think I can express my opinion on that, right?
What I was saying, was that it ought to be legal to have 2-3 beers over several hours and drive home. My level of impairment at that point would be far less than the stupidity-induced impairment of the average driver on the road today.
