Oh it is definitely worse now - I agree 100% with that.
Just pointing out that stagnation has come and gone for decades depending mainly on where one is in the hiring cycle. And even though I wasn't here then either, the early 90's guys have had their share of crap also: B scale, No Jump-seat, leadership 7.5, furloughs, and a few other gems.
