That comment makes no sense, the a/c did not stall without the alpha protection it or any other a/c would have stalled-basic aerodynamics. The reason they didn't stall is because the alpha prot limited the pitch to L/D max. Alpha floor is a completely separate system that adds Toga power if the energy situation gets out of control and you haven't done it yourself already. That protection is removed at 50' agl which makes sense because it could come on during landing if someone held the plane off too long and got slow. That situation resulted from a lack of sa, planning on the fly for the airshow, and lack of systems knowledge. I'd like to see those other a/c clear the trees without stalling with full back yoke and engines at idle(until the last second). Doesn't make the Bus better, again it's just basic aerodynamics. You don't have to like the plane, but too many people comment on it without knowing jack about it. As far as the autothrottles go, can't speak for MD products but IIRC in the Boeings if you hit the Toga button with the FD and AT off, you get the pop up FD and something like 90% of GA on the first push and all of it on the second push. Don't know about the A300, but the 320 is simple, just push the thrust levers into the TOGA detent and you get it all regardless of AT status-in fact anything over the CL(MCT single engine) detent is outside of the AT engagement range.
