My grandfather built the Mars and many other aircraft at the Martin plant in Middle River, Md. They have a area called Martin's Lagoon at the end of the river with a seaplane ramp. If you ever fly into BWI, most likely you will be vectored to the north over the Martin State Airport on a downwind for RWY 33L at BWI. The Lagoon and ramp are visible from the air.
When I was a kid, they were working on the space program at the same factory.
That is a beautiful airplane (ship?). There is a pristine example of one in Tucson at the Pima Air Museum indoors. Hope you've had a chance to see it in person.
