No, the problem with this isn't as big as the problem with the Qs and Saabs. For one, all our ATL pilots are already CL65 typed, and need barely a 1 or 2 day conversion course and they can be back in a CRJ-200. That pales in comparison to the disaster of a FULL training event required for a Colgan Saab or Q pilot to come over to the RJ side. You're switching airlines, new procedures, new books, new flows, new type rating, new everything. This will not take 1 or 2 days, it will take at least 2 months, and thousands and thousands of dollars. Therefore it's not the same comparison. Second, you're correct that the ATL flying is losing money. I'm all for fixing it, and here is how: close up the ATL base and shift those -900s elsewhere in the system like DTW, MSP, and JFK. Delta is expanding big time in NYC, especially LGA, and we should negotiate a deal for JFK/LGA for the -900s. In this case, you don't need out of order furloughs. And besides, you're talking about 16 CRJ-900s out of almost 200. Whereas the Colgan side, we're talking about all the Saabs and all the Qs being unprofitable, and the chance that all that flying could go belly up. When you start talking about an entire airline being parked, it's time for drastic solutions.
