When I tell the guys I'm flying with that I'll be over 18 years here before I can be a captain, they look at me like I have a horn growing out of my head, or say I'm being too picky about my first captain seat. Agreed. I'm looking at 7-8 years just to get off reserve unless I bid to NYC. I'm guessing I'll reach a captain seat in about 2026-2028. It shows me reaching the 50 percent point in 2024, but we are a shrinking airline so the crystal ball isn't completely accurate. That puts me at an 18-20 year upgrade. Luckily I was hired young so I will still have 14-19 years as a captain. I don't think it will be any quicker at any other legacy carrier as they are shrinking too.
